PRANA Secures HDRS Support to Strengthen National Research Infrastructure
Updated: 4 days ago

PRANA has been awarded just under £300k funding through the Health Data Research Service (HDRS) Technical Transformation programme. This marks an important milestone in the development of the UK’s national road injury research infrastructure.
The funding will support the next phase of PRANA’s technical development, helping to strengthen the secure systems and processes that enable police, ambulance and hospital data to be brought together safely for approved research.
Over the coming months, the programme will focus on improving how new datasets are onboarded to the Wessex SDE, developing reusable technical tools and methods, and make it easier for other organisations to adopt similar approaches in the future. This work will help create a more robust, scalable and sustainable platform for research while maintaining the highest standards of data security, privacy and governance.
By strengthening these technical foundations, PRANA will enable researchers to answer important questions about road traffic injuries, evaluate interventions more effectively, and generate evidence that can improve patient care, emergency response and road safety policy.
The award recognises the progress already made by PRANA in establishing the UK’s most advanced linked road injury data resources and will accelerate work to ensure these capabilities can deliver benefits for patients, the public and the wider research community.
We would like to thank HDRS for their support and look forward to sharing updates as the programme progresses over the coming months.
